Coronavirus was no match for the Associate Leadership Council (ALC) Class of 2020! Although the pandemic halted in-person TREC meetings and events for most of the year, the ALC class completed its leadership development training (mostly virtually), broke fundraising records, and constructed the Southpoint Community Market in the Forest District as part of the Dallas Catalyst Project.

“Once we hit about June, there were so many built-in excuses to walk away or be frustrated with the experience and they just, frankly, didn’t do that,” said Matt Ballard of CBRE, the Class of 2020 Chair. “The biggest compliment that I can give them is that they continued to show up with a smile on their face and participate in the face of a class that didn’t go the way they planned.”

Despite the pandemic, ALC class members raised $98,400 in support of TREC Foundation during the program’s annual FightNight raffle fundraiser, with Matt Goyne setting a new individual record with $35,750.

The Southpoint Community Market, which is owned and operated by DCP partner organization Cornerstone Baptist Church, will serve a known food desert by providing the Forest District community with access to fresh food and basic household items as well as free Wi-Fi. The market is expected to open in early 2021.
