There are so many ways for you to get involved with The Real Estate Council, invest in the Dallas community, and expand your commercial real estate knowledge and network – so many, we’ll admit, that the sheer volume of opportunities can get a little overwhelming.
We do a lot as an organization, and it’s because of the enthusiasm and generosity of our members that we’re able to accomplish as much as we do over the course of the year.
Now that the calendar has flipped to 2020, and you’ve resolved to truly make the most of your membership, we thought it was the perfect time to remind you of all the events you could attend and programs you could be a part of as a TREC member:

Educational Programs

Bank of Texas Speaker Series
Learn from noted industry, business, and community leaders at Speaker Series, TREC’s premier educational program. During these events, TREC keeps members informed on the most pressing business, economic, and community topics. Past topics included walkable urbanism, entrepreneurial technology in commercial real estate, and our capital markets update.
Market Matters
Hear from leading decision makers in the capital markets and across the office, industrial, retail, and multifamily sectors. Through Market Matters, TREC offers unparalleled access to expert insights, networking, and the highest quality educational content.
The Deal: Real Estate Acquisition to Disposition
During this five-month educational series, industry experts will break down the major components of a real estate deal. Monthly program modules will explore topics ranging from site selection, acquisition, sourcing, and structuring of capital, development, day-to-day operations, and disposition of a property.
Deepen your understanding of industry issues and trends with our podcast, TRECcast. Through interviews with industry leaders, you’ll gain up-to-date intel on topics including market and economic trends, community investment, leadership, and public policy. Available on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, iHeartRadio, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Stitcher.

Leadership Development

Associate Leadership Council
Through TREC’s Associate Leadership Council, you’ll learn more about our city and industry, refine your leadership skills, invest in the community, and build your network. Through a highly competitive application process, commercial real estate professionals between 27 and 37 years old come together over 10 months for leadership development programs, personalized assessments, coaching with a professional executive coaching firm, and a community service project. The education, relationships, and experience gained has a tremendous effect on participants’ careers for years to come.
Executive Leadership Program
The Executive Leadership Program is designed for seasoned commercial real estate executives seeking to sharpen their skills and reach a new level of personal and professional development. Through a combination of candid roundtable discussions, guest speakers, group assignments, and personalized executive coaching, class members will explore the challenges that leaders face daily, including: developing and honing personal strengths, creating a shared vision, building trust, managing changing environments, encouraging innovation, delivering results, and communicating authentically and consistently.
Leadership Alumni
Stay connected with fellow ALC and Executive Leadership Program graduates in our Leadership Alumni program. Each year, Leadership Alumni hosts educational lunches, networking events, and other opportunities in support of the values, goals, and mission of TREC and TREC Foundation.
Mentorship Program
Learn from an experienced commercial real estate professional with our six-month, one-on-one Mentorship Program. Each mentor and mentee meet regularly to develop an action plan focused on achieving the mentee’s career goals. Mentee applicants must be 35 or younger to participate.
Talent Capital Forum
Learn from your peers through the semi-annual Talent Capital Forum, open to human resources professionals in the commercial real estate industry. These facilitated, peer-to-peer round table discussions explore talent capital trends and tools in an engaging and interactive networking environment.

Public Policy Programs

TREC Political Action Committee (PAC)
TREC PAC interviews candidates and directly funds candidate endorsements. Membership in and contribution to the PAC ensures that TREC’s interests are represented in Austin.
Public Policy Committee
Lead TREC’s efforts to research, understand, and communicate current regulations, best practices, and policy strategies that contribute to the economic growth, quality of life, and success of the Dallas region.
TREC Think Tank
TREC Think Tank analyzes all parts of the Dallas and regional community, identifying city-planning initiatives for 10, 25, and 50 years from now. TREC Think Tank reports back to the Public Policy Committee and TREC board with vision statements and action items.
Please note: this program is application-based.
Public Policy 101
In these hour-long workshops, you’ll gain fundamental knowledge in public policy and learn the skills needed to serve on a city board, commission, or task force. Find current opportunities to serve and learn how to apply.
TREC Talks
Join us for receptions with local elected officials and decision makers. During these events, invited guests discuss their priorities and interact with TREC members.
PAC TopGolf Fundraiser
Show off your golf game by participating in TREC PAC’s annual TopGolf tournament. Compete in teams and help the PAC replenish its funds from campaign expenditures.
Please note: all proceeds benefit TREC PAC.
Public Policy Roundtable
Enjoy intimate luncheons with industry and policy experts, analyzing the intersection of policy and commercial real estate. Topics include the political anatomy of a real estate deal and the latest legislative updates.

Community Investment Programs

Individual and Company Volunteer Opportunities
TREC will organize volunteer days in the Dallas Catalyst Project neighborhood, the Forest District, for our members and their companies. These volunteer opportunities can be half-day or full-day workdays for you and your teams to do good works for our partners. Contact TREC to learn more.
Forest District Bus Tours
TREC periodically offers tours of the Dallas Catalyst Project neighborhood, the Forest District, which can be found on the Events page.

Foundation Events

Get ringside for a spectacular evening of professional boxing, casino gaming, exceptional cuisine, and the opportunity to be among the top decision makers in the industry and political community. Since 1989, FightNight has become one of North Texas’ largest philanthropic events, raising more than $27 million to support TREC Foundation’s good works.
Giving Gala
For over 25 years, TREC’s annual Giving Gala has celebrated the hard work and generosity of our members and their companies. Funds raised during the event support TREC Foundation’s good works in the Dallas community.
Casino Night
Casino Night is our premier Young Guns event, bringing together more than 500 young professionals for a night of casino-style gaming to raise funds for the annual Young Guns Foundation Project and TREC Foundation.

Young Guns Programs

About Town
Want the inside track on upcoming developments in the Dallas area? About Town programs provide an overview of an active development and often include a construction site tour and networking opportunity. Past About Towns include tours of The Luminary, the Virgin Hotel, East Quarter, and Harwood No. 10.
Stay informed on trending Dallas neighborhoods while networking with industry leaders. Forum is an annual panel event where key players exchange ideas, updates, and projections on an emerging neighborhood in DFW. Past Forums include discussions on the evolution of Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville, The Cedars, West Dallas, and Victory Park.
Rising to the Top
Get inside the minds of commercial real estate professionals at the highest levels! Explore career development with a diverse group of developers, investors, brokers, designers, and others to learn how you might also rise to the top.
Breakfast Groups
Get to know your fellow Young Guns over breakfast. Meet monthly from March through December with a small group to discuss business trends and local issues while building relationships across a variety of businesses within commercial real estate.
Young Guns Foundation Project
Help better our community by assisting on a real estate project with fellow Young Guns members. With funds raised from Casino Night, the Young Guns Foundation Project supports local nonprofits and makes a lasting impact. Recent projects include renovations of the Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center and the Aberg Center for Literacy.
