- Parkland
Dedication: While the city waits for the
required information from the appraisal districts, they will
continue work on developing a state-compliant ordinance. Until
such time as that ordinance is approved and implemented by
Council, development projects in the City of Dallas are not
required to pay a parkland dedication fee. TREC is working
closely with staff and will be very involved as the proposed
ordinance is drafted and reviewed.
- ForwardDallas: We are in the final stretch of the
ForwardDallas Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update, which means we
are quicky approaching the final opportunity for residents to
provide feedback on the proposed Future Placetype Maps. The Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Committee (CLUP), which TREC President and CEO Linda McMahon
serves on, gave initial approval to the draft plan and sent it
forward to City Plan Commission. Following CPC, Council will
still need to review and approve the final plan. You can view
the ForwardDallas 2.0 draft, Placetype map, or register to
attend a meeting here.
- Discussion
on Housing Options: On Tuesday, December 19, staff
briefed the Housing and Homelessness Solutions Committee in
response to a five-signature memo initiated by Councilman Chad West.
The briefing requested that staff explain the process and
potential effects of reducing minimum lot sizes and allowing
two, three, and four-unit complexes on single family zoned
lots. The briefing is expected to next be delivered to full
Council on Wednesday, January 31.
- Digital
Sidewalk Kiosks: In May 2023, the City of Dallas
issued an RFP for vendors to develop, implement, and service a
digital sidewalk kiosk program throughout the city. TREC was
alerted to this push by our partners at Uptown Dallas, Inc., and
has followed developments on the topic in the months since. City
Council is scheduled to consider a contract with the selected
vendor, IKE, in February.
- Parking
Reform: The city's Zoning Ordinance Advisory
Committee (ZOAC) meeting scheduled for January 16 to discuss
potential offsite parking code changes was cancelled. The next
opportunity for city staff to present their revised proposals to
the committee is Tuesday, January 30. The ordinance reforms are
still anticipated to move forward in the first half of
2024. TREC is carefully reviewing the proposed ordinance and will provide comments to staff and ZOAC. Thanks to
the Public Policy Committee's Parking Reform working group for
their years of work on this topic!
- 2024
Capital Bond: Dallas City Council heard a presentation on the 2024 Bond on Friday, January
19, at a special called Council Meeting. Council will discuss
the bond proposal one more time, on Wednesday, January 31, prior
to the mid-February deadline to place the bond on a May election
ballot. If Council decides to hold the bond election for policy
or political considerations or is not able to agree on
allocations for the bond by Wednesday,
February 14, the bond will be
pushed back to the November elections.
- Transportation: A City Council briefing from
TXDOT on the 30 percent design schematic for I-345 that was
scheduled for December has been rescheduled for early 2024.
- Texas Primary Election: The last day to register to
vote in the March 5 Primary election is Monday, February 5.
Early voting will begin Tuesday, February 20, and will run until
Friday, March 1.
