Rod Washington, Frost Bank
2017 TREC Community Fund Chair
Where is your favorite place in Dallas and why?
My favorite place is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. My wife and I enjoy walking the beautiful landscaped grounds and taking in the seasonal change in flowers. I also like attending the Thursday Night concert series, which is a great way to spend an evening outdoors enjoying live music in a great environment
What is the top item on your bucket list?
My wife and I have traveled to Western Europe a couple of times. However, my bucket list trip would be taking a river cruise through the historical cities of Eastern Europe.
What initially drew you to a career in commercial banking?
I felt like commercial banking offered an opportunity to learn about a variety of businesses and many of the banks had training programs when I entered the industry. I was fortunate to rotate through the Real Estate Group at Mercantile National Bank and fell in love with the real estate industry. There was something exciting about providing financing that changed the skyline of the city.
TREC uses the phrase, “Build the city you’ve imagined.” What is your vision for Dallas as a city of the future?
My vision of Dallas is a city where all its citizens have access to quality education, health care, housing and economic opportunities. I imagine Dallas as a city with various modes of transportation, great parks and recreation, great restaurants and as an economic engine for our state and region.
What is the best part about being involved in TREC Community Fund?
I’ve enjoyed seeing new businesses take off with capital provided for opportunities that would otherwise not happen. TREC Community Fund has provided me the opportunity to help parts of our city that have not fully participated in our region’s economic prosperity. It’s exciting to see neighborhoods impacted by TREC Community Fund efforts. I also appreciate working TREC staff and other real estate professionals who commit their time and expertise to make Dallas a better city.
