Teddy Leatherman, JLL Capital Markets
2017 Young Guns Casino Night Chair
Where were you born and raised and what brought you to Dallas?
I was born in Portland, Oregon, and grew up all over the Pacific Northwest, Florida, and Canada. I was a competitive three day eventer (equestrian) and moved around to follow my coach and the team with whom I was training. My parents now live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, which is where I consider home.
When I graduated from USC, I looked at the top ten most appreciating markets and decided Dallas would be the best place to launch my commercial real estate career. I had no connections in Dallas, so I started cold calling companies asking to interview. Once I lined up interviews, I spent a week in Dallas interviewing and ended up moving right after graduation.
When I was young, I wanted to be a _________.
Veterinarian until I got sick from watching one of the goats on our farm give birth.
I then decided I wanted to be an engineer because that’s what my Dad was and I liked math. Clearly, I didn’t end up in either of those career fields.
If you had an hour of free time, how would you spend it?
I would be playing tennis, taking an art class (painting and pottery classes are my favorite!) or riding my road bike around Dallas.
How has TREC impacted your career?
TREC has been such an integral part of my personal and professional growth in Dallas. I didn’t know a single person when I moved here, and TREC made it easy to integrate myself into the Young Guns group and real estate community. Some of my closest friends I’ve made since moving to Dallas I met through TREC!
What excites you most about Casino Night on March 2?
I am most excited about taking the money we raise from Casino Night and seeing how we can positively benefit the Aberg Center for Literacy.
