On Friday, June 12, TREC welcomed Richie Butler of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Prescott Group for a candid conversation about racial inequality in America.
Entitled ‘Together We Heal,’ the virtual event was facilitated by TREC Programs Chair Kim Butler of HALL Group and focused on the deep-rooted violence, injustice, and inequality against black lives due to decades of systemic racism that continues to overwhelm our nation.
Butler, who holds two degrees from SMU and a master’s degree from Harvard, is the founder of Project Unity, a collaborative of programming and events that seeks to build community between different segments of our city, including faith, business, civic, philanthropic, grassroots, and government entities.
Project Unity sponsors Together We Ball, a community initiative that uses sports to bring community and law enforcement together, and Together We Dine, a program that brings people together to have courageous and safe conversations about race. Butler is the co-convener of a weekly national prayer call for racial healing and reconciliation. He was the catalyst behind the Annual “Night of Gospel and Inspiration at the State Fair of Texas.”
