On this episode of TRECcast, we’re kicking off a five-part look at the environmental laws and liability issues associated with commercial real estate deals! Today we’re looking specifically at how the different parties involved in a transaction can be held liable – both to the state of Texas and the federal government – for environmental contamination issues on a property.

Our guest throughout the series is Jill Kotvis, a Dallas-based environmental lawyer and TREC member who has helped resolve hundreds of environmental matters including due diligence issues, risk minimization and liability transfers, and vapor intrusion, among others.

Future episodes in the series will cover environmental due diligence and working with environmental consultants (September 19), asbestos and mold removal (September 23), vapor intrusion (September 26), and a breakdown of the different Texas environmental cleanup programs and associated standards (September 30).
