How would you describe the FightNight experience to someone who has never attended one?
For me, FightNight is the premier event for Dallas commercial real estate, where members from across every aspect of our industry come together to celebrate, network, and give back in an atmosphere of red-carpet glamour. There is no other event that brings such a broad spectrum of commercial real estate leaders together in one room. Under the spectacle, it’s for a good cause: Proceeds fund local revitalization and economic development, and it’s raised more than $35 million for TREC’s community investment work. But it’s the spectacle that makes the celebration memorable! There are other events that have copied the model, but TREC started it all, and for those who will get to experience for the first time this year, I’m excited for them to see why it’s still the best!
What excites you most about this year’s Rat Pack-inspired FightNight theme?
The Rat Pack style is instantly recognizable. Boxing has a natural swagger, and the Rat Pack era owned that swagger. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and others practically invented the idea of ringside glamour, so the theme and the sport fit like they were made for each other.
Vegas in the ’60s was the fight capital of the world: big-money bouts, packed casino ballrooms, celebrities at ringside. So leaning into that history gives FightNight an authentic backdrop of a time when boxing was the center of grand celebration. To me there’s a sophistication with an edge. Black-tie, cocktails, big band energy all alongside the competition in the ring. That contrast of polish and grit is exactly what makes for an exciting night.
Do you have a favorite FightNight memory?
My first FightNight was in 1999…let’s not do the math on that. Let’s just say there have been a lot of memories. And maybe that’s my answer. It is not one specific moment or event. It’s the history of this event. A night to celebrate with friends and colleagues in the industry. See old ones. Network with new ones. And all while knowing that we are collectively supporting TREC and our mission to give back to our city. There is always an energy and excitement in the room at FightNight that is unique to this event, and after 36 years of history, it’s still both gratifying and, candidly, just really fun to experience.
How does FightNight support TREC Community Investors and neighborhood revitalization initiatives like Dallas Catalyst Project: Mill City?
This is an easy one. Without FightNight, and its sponsors and supporters, we don’t. FightNight is our single largest fundraiser for TREC CI. Those dollars go straight back into the community and, specifically, the Mill City project. TREC is vitally important to the real estate community in Dallas and has a very real, very tangible impact on helping improve this city that has provided such great opportunities for all of us in this industry. So I am incredibly grateful to everyone who is supporting FightNight because their support directly impacts TREC’s ability to continue working hard to make those tangible improvements in the city to which we all owe our success.
