FightNight: Rising Up Chair

Tell us about the theme of this year’s FightNight, “Rising Up.” Why was it selected?

Dallas rises! Through thick and thin, we have a way of not only maintaining our greatness, but also growing and thriving in challenging economies, downturns, and recessions. Dallas prospers and rises up in most every situation. I wanted to celebrate that.

What is your favorite FightNight memory?

Across the board, each year being with fellow brokers, developers, and investors. We have an amazing real estate community and the event itself far exceeds any other in the country.

Funds raised during FightNight benefit TREC Community Investors and our neighborhood revitalization efforts throughout Dallas’ most underserved neighborhoods. How can our members help us reach our fundraising goals?

I always say “It takes a village.” In order to raise the money necessary for TREC Community Investors to put forth their efforts, we are all responsible for giving our time, money, and talents. Everyone must participate and contribute in order for our goals to be met.

For all its spectacle and fanfare, FightNight has always been about bringing people together. Considering the current state of the commercial real estate industry, how important is that aspect of the event this year?

Bringing our industry leaders together is powerful. There is a special energy in the air the evening of our event.  Because this year has been challenging for many, it will be more important than ever for all of us to participate and be a part of that amazing energy.

TREC’s slogan, “Build the City You’ve Imagined,” is often thought of as a call to action for TREC members to leave a positive, lasting legacy on our industry, city, and communities. What does the expression mean to you? What kind of impact would you like to leave?

It’s a good reminder that we are all responsible for our great city. We all have a unique imagination – no two people are exactly alike in their vision so everyone has an important role to play. I would like to have an impact on the real estate community and know that my efforts have somehow made a difference. It’s good work and I’m grateful to do my part.
