Hi there, fellow leaders.
I’m Josh Hedderich and this year I have the pleasure of serving as TREC’s Associate Leadership Council Alumni Association (ALCAA) Chairman. Since graduating from the ALC program in 2012 (alongside a group more commonly known as the “Best Class Ever”, or BCE), I’ve been engaged in various capacities throughout TREC and TREC Foundation to give back and provide a more meaningful experience for me personally. From participating in the mentorship program, to vetting TREC Foundation grant applicants, to chairing the Research & Development committee, my TREC experience has only become richer through my continued involvement.
On Tuesday, March 1, I had the pleasure of gathering at the Henry’s Majestic patio with more than 40 BCE representatives and other classes to kick off the year’s ALCAA program of events and explore the concept of “engagement” – a concept which is the recurring theme of this year’s messaging. Engagement, not in the nuptial sense, but more along the lines of “plugging in.” In the last few years, members have approached me wondering how to get more involved. It became apparent we needed to drop some knowledge on the ALCAA membership and share inroads to greater roles within TREC.
Two prominent ALCAA members joined us to share ideas as to how to get plugged in. Mitch Paradise of Paradise Development Partners lent some insight into the Political Action Committee (PAC) as well as the Education Committee. Courtney Emich-Spellicy discussed some of her experiences with TREC Foundation and shared some current volunteer opportunities.
Mitch shared thoughts about his engagement with TREC. When asked about his post-ALC TREC life, he noted, “I was amazed by what I was exposed to in ALC and how involved TREC was in the community. I wanted to give back to the organization after they had invested so much time in me through ALC.” His engagement provides him with, “A deep and meaningful connection to our community and civic leaders.”
Courtney shared her motivation behind her post-ALC TREC Foundation involvement. Her words mirror my own thoughts when she states, “I really value the time I devote to TREC Foundation. It provides me with opportunities to serve my community in ways that feel meaningful to me and, I believe, help me to stay mindful of what is really important in life.”
ALCAA offers paid members a robust calendar of networking and educational events. Following this month’s Engagement Happy Hour, paid members will enjoy four neighborhood lunches at various locations across the city, an educational lunch featuring a prominent panel, a Fall Happy Hour and community service opportunities. We are also currently exploring a new summertime event as well (TBD – but I’m pulling for a brewery tour or a Rangers game). All this can be yours for the low, low price of $75 for current TREC members or $200 for non-TREC members… now that’s what I call VALUE!
But wait, there’s more… if you act now, you too can join the ranks of those engaged TREC members who are devoting their free time to help Build the City You’ve Imagined. Won’t you join me? Click here to reconnect.
