The Real Estate Council’s (TREC) Young Guns, a young professional development program for commercial real estate industry professionals, announces its 2025 community investors project, the renovation of the Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center’s STEM Lab located in the Mill City neighborhood. The renovations will help the Dallas Independent School District school carry out its mission of equipping over 600 pre-K through fifth-grade students with the behavioral and academic skills they need to compete in a global society.

The Young Guns renovation of the STEM Lab will further TREC’s momentum with Dallas Catalyst Project: Mill City (DCP), a place-based economic development initiative that began with a $1 million, three-year commitment from TREC Community Investors (TREC CI) and TREC members in 2024. The work also continues the Young Guns’ legacy of producing some of Dallas’ most notable industry trailblazers through unique educational opportunities, networking, and civic responsibility that includes real estate-related community service in the city’s most underserved neighborhoods.

“For decades, the Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center has played a crucial role in supporting Mill City residents, providing opportunities for the community to grow and succeed,” said Dominique Pryor-Anderson, senior director of community investment at TREC CI. “I am excited to work alongside this group of talented industry professionals and the team at Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center to help further energize the Mill City neighborhood.”

The project will include a completely reimagined interior, with a new workbench area, media entertainment wall, hallway art wrap and acoustic ceiling tiles as well as other cosmetic and furniture enhancements and improved electronic capabilities.

The cost of the renovations is approximately $100,000. TREC CI is providing a $52,000 grant, and an additional $30,000 from Tackle Tomorrow, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in underserved communities throughout Dallas, and Veritis, a Texas-based global information technology solutions and services provider.

The Young Guns will also host a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the completion of their 2024 community investment project, the exterior renovation of the Innercity Community Development Corporation’s 15,000-square-foot headquarters, the first completed project as part of Dallas Catalyst Project: Mill City. ICDC programs focus on supporting home ownership and economic development within the neighborhoods surrounding Fair Park. The updates to the Spring Plaza building exterior include new landscaping, fresh paint, improved lighting and modernized signage.
